Acadia, officially The Federal Republic of Acadia or Acadian Federation, is a federal republic in central and eastern Euphemia, with 22 political districts, or states. Acadia shares borders with Kaskaskia and Shayden to the North, Fraesia and the Ivouixkaw Federation to the west, the Esdikkom Federation and Cadonia to the south, and the Dacian Ocean to the east.

Acadia and Shayden declared their independence from Trentannia on November 1st of 1780, and had it officially recognized on August 14th of 1789. Since then, the republic has grown to create one, united federation. Acadia has a population of about 111 million. It's captial is Troy, with a metropolitan population of 5.6 million. A majority of Acadian population is near the East Coast and Grand Lakes. These cities include New Stretton, Troy, Genoa, Davis, Highland, Hudson, Charles, and Ellsburgh.

History

Etymology

Acadia was commonly referred to as the "New World" until it was given the Name "Acadia" on a Trentannian map; named after Posilliponian explorer, Louis M. Acadie.

Discovery

The land presently known as Acadia was discovered in 1492, when Posilliponian explorers saw an object in the west, that turned out to be a pine tree.(The same tree on the Flag of Acadia) The captain was informed and decided to turn their in that direction due to supply shortages.

Original Colonies

In 1610, New Stretton, the first Trentannian colony in Acadia was established. More colonies were established along the coast to form the original Acadian colonies located south of the Shaydian colonies. Many years later, when Trentannia needed to pay debts from a war in Althena, the king was forced to impose large taxes on the colonies in Euphemia. This resulted in major revolts and protests in the colonies; eventually leading to the Colonies' War, winning their independence when a peace treaty was signed in Insulo on August 14th of 1789.

National Expansion and Immigration

After winning their independence, the Acadians expanded westward. The settlers encountered many obstacles including native Euphemians, harsh terrain, and areas loyal to Posillipo and Trentannia. After interventions by the government, new states were formed, uniting the original states with western settlements. The finished product became the Acadian Federation. After famines and ongoing wars in Althena, thousands of immigrants emigrated to Acadia. Many were from Posillipo pursuing a new life. This, and the large amount of Posilliponians living in Acadia lead to Posilliponian becoming a common language in Acadia and the official language of some states.

Annexation of New Fraesia

In 1827, the land now known as New Fraesia, seceded from the Posilliponian Colony of Fraesia. After 5 months of being an independent country, New Fraesia was admitted to the Acadian Federation. The Fraesians, however, did not recognize this annexation and has been an ongoing conflict for several years. The conflict ended after the Fraesian War in 2012, which set up a new government and Fraesia and guaranteed the sovereignty of New Fraesia to Acadia.

Imperialist Acadia

In the years prior to the GAW, Acadia developed an extensive empire, mostly in the Allidean Sea. Acadia acquired other lands by purchasing islands from Insulo or invading and conquering primitive tribal nations. Over time, Acadia became the dominant force in the Allidan Sea. Before the start of the GAW, Brullen's presence in the Allidean Sea began growing. The Acadian air and naval bases in the area became a threat to Brullen; in 1942, several Acadian islands with Acadian bases located within them were bombed by Brullen, bringing Acadia into the war.

Great Adonian War

During the 19th and 20th century, Acadia was in a period of imperialism. The Federation expanded and doubled in size by 1827. By the beginning of the 20th century, Acadia had dozens of overseas dependencies, most in the Allidean Sea near Ruteria. By the start of the GAW, Acadia had a large and powerful empire and was ready to fight. During the GAW, Acadia joined the Allied Powers with Shaydenand Posillipo, and fought until victory. By the end of the war, Acadia had a damaged economy and its territories were crying out for independence. Eventually all but four dependencies were given their independence.

Geography

Acadia's climate is generally moderate to warm near the Northeast Coast due to the Everlist Stream warming the water and temperature in that area. Most of the country has mild summers and very cold winters. The southern tundra portion of Acadia is cold most times of the year, but is mild during the summer.

Location

Acadia is located in central and eastern Euphemia. Acadia shares borders with Kaskaskia and Shayden to the North, Freasia and the Ivouixkaw Federation to the west, the Esdikkom Federation and Cadonia to the south, and the Dacian Ocean to the east. The Grand Lakes are located in the Northwestern portion of Acadia.

Regions

A large part of Acadia is the Great Plains of Euphemia, located in the Midwest. In this area, wheat, corn, and other crops are grown in large quantities. Immense fields of prairie were originally in the area before it was developed. Near Acadia's East Coast, large forests of pine trees are common.

States

The federation is divided into 22 states.

Foreign Relations

Acadia attempts to maintain friendly, if not, neutral, relations with most nations on Adonia. Acadia is a full member of the United Sovereign Nations of the World and participates in the South Dacian Alliance Organization. After the Dead War, relations with Acadia were re-opened, and the nation has been making diplomatic progress. Acadia has been allied with Shayden since Independence. Since Fraesia's independence, Acadia has been the country's only ally. As a member in the Euphemian Bloc, Acadia is allied with Folland, Kaskaskia, Shayden, and Mitron.

Fraesian War and Dead War

Main Articles: Fraesian War, Dead War

The Fraesian War started on June 6th, 2012 when Fraesian Confederate drones attacked the city of Davis in Geneva. Acadia invaded the nation to prevent more attacks and to neutralize the weapons the confederacy claimed to have. The AIA eventually captured the man responsible for the attacks, Jacques Varcame, who was executed in Fraesia in 2012. Fraesia suffered massive damage from the war and a reconstruction plan was put forth in Acadia to rebuild the nation. During this, tensions between Folland and Acadia grew, starting the Dead War, with the name implying that the (Fraesian) war had stopped, but a dead war was in progress. Acadia passed the Sovereignty Act to intimidate Folland and build up Acadia's strength, deployed troops to Fraesia, and built an alliance. Folland used legal action against Acadia and also built its own alliance. The conflict ended after the establishment of the Euphemian Bloc, which started after President Johnson's speech. The Fraesian War officially ended when Fraesia was granted independence on January 1, 2013.
