YAK
YAK, an initialism for Ypourgeío Asfaleías Kratikí̱s (Sinopian: Υπουργείο Ασφαλείας Κρατικής (YAK), translated in Trentannian as Ministry of State Security), is the main security agency for the Sinope Republic since the 8th century. It has been described as one of the most effective and repressive intelligence and secret police agencies in the world. YAK is headquartered in the Doge Palace and answers directly to the Doge. Its agents are worldwide known to wear the traditional YAK costume which has been the same since the creation of the Ministry in 765. The costume consists of an ankle length overcoat and a bird-like beak mask often filled with sweet or strong smelling substances (commonly lavender), along with gloves, boots, a brim hat and an outer over-clothing garment. YAK has been created since the first epidemic of plagues in Sinope and to solve state crimes. Its remit includes the protection of the Sinopian constitution and economic interests, counter-terrorism and counter-espionage within the Republic. Although mainly concerned with internal security, it does have an overseas role in support of its mission.
Little is known of the operations of YAK agents, however, it is common to see some agents leave the Doge Palace with a cortege of local police to put aside the tourists in the Poseidon Square so they can take a boat to the mainland. YAK is one of the oldest police organization in Adonia and has been portrayed in many works of fiction.
